The GREAT debate-NOT

The 2024 presidential election has presented us with perhaps the most disheartening choice in modern American politics: Kamala Harris versus Donald Trump. On one side, we have a candidate often portrayed as a puppet, reminiscent of “The Manchurian Candidate,” with scripted responses, a questionable grasp of leadership, and an allegiance to establishment politics that often seems more performative than purposeful. On the other, Donald Trump—a real-life Archie Bunker figure, whose crude rhetoric, divisive policies, and disregard for decorum and truth have turned the political arena into a reality show more concerned with ratings than results. Did it matter? No, because the game was rigged from the start. The left stays left, the right stays right, and America stays stuck. The line between politics and entertainment has blurred to the point of being indistinguishable. Candidates are no longer elected on merit or vision but on who can rally their base into a frenzy, often through fear, misinformation, or nostalgia for a past that never really existed. This election isn’t about policy; it’s about power plays, media spectacles, and maintaining the status quo. Both candidates embody the worst aspects of American politics: one pandering to progressive optics without substance, the other stoking,...

Cell phones and the Internet

The internet and cell phones are impacting relationships significantly. When I was growing up, five of us shared one house phone. I knew everyone who called for my sisters, mother, and stepdad. There was no expectation to return a call within a specific time frame. If I wanted to talk to a girl, I had to call her home and ask her parents for permission. This often involved the inevitable question, “who is this?” If I had a less-than-stellar reputation, her parents would either bar me from speaking to their child or interrogate her to ensure our relationship was platonic. This process instilled in me a deep respect for both adults and peers. Building relationships during that era was challenging without parents being aware. Many friends, both boys and girls, were only conversational companions during school hours. However, it was rare to encounter them outside of the school setting. The kids I associated with were known to their parents, and even today, those parents inquire about me, demonstrating the lasting impact of that indirect monitoring through the house phone. This system helped keep children in check, discouraging negative influences and fostering a sense of respect. For young people who have,...

2024

As the new year unfolds, countless individuals find themselves inspired to make positive changes. Weight loss, quitting smoking or drinking, spending more time with family, and increasing income are among the common aspirations. Achieving these goals is entirely possible, yet a significant majority, around 80% or more, abandon their resolutions within the initial weeks of the year. Reflecting on my past New Year’s resolutions, I aimed to quit smoking on seven different occasions. Despite temporary successes, lasting up to three months each time, and two instances of abstaining for over a year within a span of 13 years, my final and successful quit happened on a random day in 2009. It’s worth noting that I had started making lifestyle changes well before completely overcoming the habit. Your actions shape who you become. Consistent effort leads to improvement. It’s crucial to emphasize that many individuals desire rewards without investing the necessary work. Excuses surface when expectations are unmet, and self-blame is avoided. Want a 6-figure career? Cultivate a 7-figure work ethic. Dreaming of a 7-figure home? Craft an 8-figure game plan. Dreaming alone won’t suffice; it’s essential to start living the dream by taking actionable steps. Embarking on this journey will,...

Standards – Do you have them?

Over the past decade, my philosophy on life and success has undergone a profound transformation. I used to fluctuate between easily being motivated and unmotivated. I often pointed fingers at external circumstances beyond my control for my situation, consistently shifting blame away from myself. However, a single, simple adjustment altered the course of my life. I decided to take full responsibility for my actions, and this shift, which took approximately 22 years of my adult life, significantly changed my perspective on the world and the results I achieved in my physical, mental, and financial endeavors. Looking back on my younger self, I can’t help but chuckle. I see so many individuals exhibiting similar traits. They frequently settle for less, clutching onto meager resources and unrealistic dreams, hoping for a superhero to swoop in and save the day. But the truth is, no superhero is coming to your rescue, divine intervention won’t do it for you, your significant other can’t do it either, and your idol won’t magically appear to help you reach your desired destination. The only person capable of achieving that is YOU. It all begins with setting a standard. Standards are the cornerstone of establishing consistent, positive habits.,...

51 years old

As another year swiftly comes to an end, I find myself on the brink of turning 51. Reflecting on my journey, I feel immensely blessed to have reached this point. In my teenage years, the specter of violence loomed large due to the crack epidemic, leaving me anxious about a potentially tragic end. Amidst the drugs and crime, thoughts of mortality were a frequent companion, a topic seldom shared with others. Upon reaching 21, I found myself in college, surprised and without a concrete plan for the future. Living day by day, immersed in a cycle of indulgence, I failed to realize my potential and inadvertently hurt those around me. Graduating at 24, I was an adult with little self-understanding and no clear path forward, questioning the worth of my existence. Fatherhood thrust itself upon me in 1998, although I had unknowingly been a father since 1996. As a young father, I stumbled through, making numerous mistakes and offering excuses for my shortcomings. Despite building a career and enjoying social success, my relationship with my children suffered, and I reached 2010 with a familial disconnect. A pivotal decision marked a turning point in my life. I chose to relinquish blame,,...
