Growth takes time!

I wasn’t always the man I am today. In fact, for a long time, I was the exact opposite of who I said I wanted to become. I was a college basketball player who quit—more than once. I was the student who rarely showed up to class. I was a man who ran toward lust and away from anything that looked like a real relationship. I had children in situations I shouldn’t have been in, continuing the broken family cycles I came from instead of breaking them. And despite knowing I was called for something greater, I ran from God—again and again—even when I saw progress, even when I felt that gentle tug on my heart. I’ve hit rock bottom so many times, I lost count. But one day, I made a promise. A simple one: I would never get arrested again. And while life had its own sense of humor and I was later arrested for something as ridiculous as not walking my dog on a leash—yes, that happened—I didn’t quit on myself. Because the promise wasn’t really about avoiding arrest. The promise was about showing up every day to be better than I was the day before. It,...

Opportunities in the air!

While taking a flight to Daytona beach Florida for a weekend getaway with two of my guy friends, I closely paid attention to people’s habits around me. As I walked through 1st class, I noticed a man frantic on his lap top. I thought to myself, “I hope he works for himself”. I would never be that intense about performing tasks for a company or boss. Then I noticed an older couple relaxed and reading the paper. I could not see what the older gentleman was reading, but I assumed it was something business related. As I made my way to the main cabin, I saw people wiping down their seats and adjusting their masks. I chuckled to myself. After I sat down, I began to watch to see what people would be doing during this flight. I have been on over 100 flights in my lifetime and this was the first time I really watched people! My observations lead me to believe that people want to be entertained, work, sleep and eat/drink while flying. This is not much different than the real world. The people who I noticed reading were reading mystery novels, love novels and enjoyment type books.,...

Showing up

There’s been a thought circling in my mind this week—showing up. Not just in the gym, not just at family events, but in every corner of life. Showing up is the secret sauce, the unglamorous but essential ingredient to success. Yet let’s be real—some people just don’t get it. They expect you to always be there for them, but when it’s their turn? Crickets. Here’s the thing though—it doesn’t phase me anymore. Why? Because on this journey, I’ve realized there are two types of people: supporters and spectators. And let me tell you, I’m not here for the peanut gallery. Discipline Over Excuses Whether you’re pushing weights or pushing through life’s challenges, discipline is what separates dreamers from doers. We all know the formula: wake up earlier, put in the work, eat right. But knowing won’t transform your life—doing will. That’s the whole idea behind my Instagram series, Discipline Diaries. Every Monday, I drop a reel to remind you that it’s not about intentions; it’s about execution. Your dreams? They’re not waiting for you to feel ready. They’re waiting for you to show up. That’s why, whether it’s our 5-day fitness challenge or the 8-week programs at Workout Harder Fitness,,...

Danger- is an educated black man!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “I fear I am integrating my people into a burning house.” This quote has echoed through my mind as I reflect on the realities of being an educated Black man in America. It is not simply a matter of success or personal achievement; it’s a dangerous journey that forces us to navigate a society designed to keep us in a state of submission. Education, for many, is seen as the great equalizer—a path to better opportunities and a chance to break free from the chains of poverty. However, for the educated Black man, it often feels more like a weapon used against us, revealing uncomfortable truths about our society and exposing the systemic structures that threaten our existence. Education gives us the power to see beyond the surface, to recognize the lies and manipulation perpetuated by the government. As an educated Black man, you begin to see through the glossy veneer of American politics, realizing that promises of freedom, equality, and opportunity are often hollow. You learn that the system was never designed to serve people who look like us. We are taught to believe that our country is a land of endless,...

How America’s Past Disables Its Future

“Happy is a Nation with no history.” I read this quote the other day and it has stuck to me like velcro. But America is not that country. Our history is long, complicated, and full of contradictions. We are a nation built on bold ideals—freedom, justice, and opportunity—yet our foundation is cracked by conquest, oppression, and division. And now, in an era where information is limitless, we are trapped by our past more than ever. I know the power of history because I’ve lived it. My past is full of struggles, pain, and hard times. But it was those struggles that shaped me, that built my resilience, that made me the man I am today. I don’t run from my past—I learn from it, I grow from it, and I refuse to let it define my future. Yet, in America, we do the opposite. We are stuck in a loop of guilt, blame, and division, constantly trying to rewrite, erase, or weaponize history. We cannot escape the conquering of Native Americans, the stain of slavery, the era of Jim Crow, or the impact of wars that have left scars on the world. These are facts, and they should be remembered.,...
