Your vote is NOT your voice!

We’ve all been told that voting is the cornerstone of democracy, that our vote is our voice, and that every vote counts. But the truth is, when you’re an independent thinker, it becomes pretty clear that not every vote truly represents every voice. The system is designed in a way that favors those with money and power, leaving the rest of us to question if our voice really matters in the grand scheme of things. I used to believe that voting was a direct way to influence change, but the more I learned, the clearer the picture became – and it’s not a pretty one. The Influence of Money on Politics Let’s start with the elephant in the room: money. In today’s political system, financial support often determines the outcome of elections, not just the number of votes. Think about it – candidates backed by corporations, lobbyists, or wealthy donors have a significant advantage. They flood the airwaves, social media, and billboards with their messages, while grassroots candidates struggle to be heard. A study by Princeton professors Martin Gilens and Benjamin I. Page in 2014 revealed a hard truth: U.S. policies overwhelmingly reflect the preferences of economic elites.  (attached a,...

2023 will be great because…

Happy new year! So often people hold off being amazing for days or months, waiting for a certain day or opportunity. Waiting is time wasted. That’s time you will never get back. There are occasions when we need to wait for a certain time. For example, you need to learn more about something, you have a surgery coming up, or you are recovering. In the fitness industry when someone tells me they want to wait for this day, they want to get ready for a wedding or vacation, or they do not have the time or money, I smile. My insides fill with emotions that rage and I use them in my next workout. Why? Why do I fill up with rage? I believe those are all the wrong reasons to get healthy or fit. I believe you get healthy or fit for life. My motivation is that I want to live forever. Right now, that is what I really want! So everything I do is fueled by eternal life. I am not perfect and I still have many variables to work on to be who I want to be. Yet, I still focus on living forever. For me, that,...

Small Town

Hot topic today is the Jason Aldean’s song “try that in a small town”. When I first heard the song I did not think anything of it. In fact I was feeling it. Much like I was feeling the 2004 rap song by Ja Rule “ New York”. For those that do not know me I am 75 % African mostly Nigerian and 25 % European mostly Italian. I have two biracial children and my wife is white. I am an educator and small business owner. I was an inspired rapper and I am a poet and a published Author. My background is significant to some. I see myself as an American and I believe America is the greatest country in the world. As I should because it’s the only one I truly know. Now let’s talk! There was a time when violence, swears, and the n word was censored from songs. I believe 2live crew won a court case and today we have the affects of that. My grandfather a southern born African-American born in 1910 said to me that, that court decision would have worse long term effects than school integration. I was confused about his statement. I,...

Men’s deserve to heal

It was a cold, rainy Saturday morning, and my schedule was already stacked. But I agreed to squeeze in a men’s group session—not because I had the time, but because my brother Kevin wanted to be there. Sometimes that’s all the motivation you need: a brother asking you to show up. And when a man asks you to stand beside him in his healing, you don’t think twice—you show up. I figured I’d walk in 30 minutes late and slide quietly into a seat while the session was in full swing. But to my surprise, the session hadn’t even started. The brothers were just sitting around, talking, laughing, vibing. It wasn’t formal, but the energy in the room was sacred. I walked in, shook every hand in the circle. Kevin, Keith—men I’d met before on a previous retreat—were already posted. Each handshake I exchanged carried this silent power… it wasn’t just grip and release. It was firm. Gentle. Restorative. Each one felt like, “I see you, bro. And I’m glad you made it.” The purpose of the gathering was simple: Men. Healing. Together. That’s it. No performance. No pretending. Just honesty and the presence of God. God was there. I,...
