MAKE or BREAK

Habits can make or break a person’s life! We develop habits that are essential for everyday life. In general,t humans all do the same things, we just do it in a different way. I workout everyday! I mean every single day! I am not the only person who does this. I workout Monday-Friday at 6am and Saturday and Sunday at 8am. I strength train during these workout sessions. Other people who work out run daily, walk, hike, swim, bike, do yoga, play tennis, play basketball, ice skate, ski, box, and so on and so on. Some may do it first thing in the morning, others midday and some in the evening. Everyone who works out everyday does not have to do the same type of movement at the same time to work out. Some people may get better results than others and that is because of a variety of factors that I will talk about in later blogs. Exercise can become a habit. When someone does it all the time it is a habit. It’s not a permanent habit because all habits can be broken. Throughout my life journey I have broken and created habits. I used to bite my,...

My circle, The power of the Mat!

As I stood on the mat, rooted yet weightless amidst the palpable energy, my mind embarked on a journey. Nine men, all of color on this particular day, were poised to enter tranquility alongside me. I am both a student and a teacher of yoga, still navigating the novice levels, yet to some in the group, I appeared as an expert. Our class unfolds in segments, each spanning 10-15 minutes, with every yogi taking their turn to lead. Each individual possesses a unique profundity that imbues the room with a radiant energy that inspires. As I awaited my turn, I glanced around the room, struck by the remarkable men surrounding me. Three were newly acquainted, their introductions exuding an aura that instantly captured my attention. One regards me as a mentor, young enough to be my son. Two others have been constants in my life for nearly three decades. And then there’s the man I fondly call “the tree,” a figure whispered about in mutual circles for over a decade, whose recent collaboration with me brought immense joy. In that moment, I was in awe, elevated by the sheer magnificence of the company I kept. Taking a deep breath, I,...

50 years deep!

I was driving Uber the other day, heading from Avon down to Foxwoods Casino. Long ride, but it was a Saturday and I had time. The couple I picked up had a story to tell. They were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Yeah, 50 years. That number hit me. I’m 52. They have been together since I was two years old. That kind of longevity makes you think. The wife was a retired teacher, sharp as ever. We got to talking—about education, politics, relationships, and respect. She said something that stuck: “Education doesn’t just shape minds—it shapes how we vote, how we see the world, how we treat each other.” And she wasn’t wrong. We both agreed that somewhere along the way, hard work stopped being the norm, and excuses became the language of the day. We laughed about how different dating was back then. She told me how a boy had to call a girl’s house and ask her parents if he could talk to her. Not text her, not DM her. You had to face the family first. I told her I never even talked to a girl I didn’t like until I got to college. Before then,,...

Promise- introduction

This book emerges from the depths of a broken man’s soul. While I am still a “WORK IN PROGRESS,” each year finds me better than the last—a repeating cycle for well over a decade. Life broke me down, and I failed to recognize the cracks that could have been my escape, leaving me trapped in a cycle of excuses and blame. This destructive process became easy, though its outcomes were harsh. I wished for change rather than working for it. As a middle-aged man, I finally became self-aware of my position in life and the true reasons for it. The realization hit hard: it was all ME, ME, ME! I made a solemn PROMISE to myself—one that would change my life. This promise started with taking better care of myself. It began with a simple act: moving my body daily, first thing in the morning. This one small task transformed my world in countless ways. Now, over a decade later, I am ready to share my story with the world, believing that my journey can help others change their lives too. Although I am not done, I feel as though I have just begun. This book is a testament to,...
