AS a child I heard the phrase “ blood is thicker than water” hundreds of times. This quote was often used when I wanted to do something with my friends that my mother or relative thought was not as important as I thought it was. The literal meaning of the phrase makes plenty of sense . Blood in the liquid form is thicker than water. The next part is referring to this comparison to family and friends. From my personal experience this phrase could be applied and fits the situation and in other situations it does not fit. Based on our experiences this phrase could be validated and or voided. I grew up in two different yet supportive family structures. My Father’s side of the family were hard working southern folk. Most of my cousins had the luxury of both parents and owned homes and had respectable jobs and careers. Everyone seemed to have a car and had enough money to get by. In a world where information is at our fingertips and wisdom is more accessible than ever, why is it still so hard to do what we know we need to do? We have the tools, the knowledge, and the resources to succeed in our personal and professional lives, yet procrastination and complacency often get the better of us. It’s as if we’re caught in a loop of knowing but not doing, aware of what’s required to achieve our goals but choosing the path of least resistance instead. As a college student, a boyfriend, and a father, I’ve had my fair share of experiences where I knew exactly what needed to be done but failed to act. In college, assignments would pile up, and despite understanding that the only way to avoid stress was to start early, I often found myself cramming at the last minute. In relationships, I knew that open communication and active listening were key, yet I sometimes fell short, letting pride or distraction take over. Silver Spoon!

In the realm of societal unbalance, there exists a phrase that reverberates with both envy and disdain: “born with a silver spoon.” It explains the notion of being born into immense wealth, shielded from the adversities that plague the majority of humanity. As I reflect on this concept, I am reminded of the stark realities of economic inequality that persist in our world. In my capacity as a black teacher and gym owner, I witness firsthand the disparities that exist and the systemic barriers that obstruct the path to prosperity for many including myself. Less than 2% of the population will never have to worry about money. These individuals were born with a silver spoon. This status is for life. Unlike a plastic spoon, a person born with a silver spoon will always have a silver spoon. It doesn’t matter what happens in their life; they will always be rich. The metaphor of the silver spoon speaks to the perpetuation of privilege across generations. It symbolizes not just material wealth, but also access to opportunities, networks, and resources that reinforce and amplify that wealth. Struggle

I owe 100% of my success to the struggle. Stop and think about everything you have. How did you achieve it? Was it easy? In my case nothing I have came instant or without suffering in some manners. Many of my nightmares I truly lived. Were the experiences fun? HELL to the NO. However, they built everything I am standing on today. Everytime I hit a wall, which is often, I look at the obstacles I have overcome thus far and without hesitation I continue to move forward and up. Remember forward and up requires work. Going down hill is easy. Gravity will assist you. Add some wheels and you will be at the bottom quick! I was listening to an Ed Mylet Podcast the other day and his guess was Tony Robbins. He said something that hit me like a migraine on a court day. He referred to the economic times we are currently going through as the winter. Christmas Reflection

Christmas has been many things to me over the course of my life, each chapter defined by where I was, who I was, and what I believed. It’s not just a holiday—it’s a mirror reflecting the seasons of my soul. As a child in a Lutheran school, Christmas was pure, untouchable, holy. It was about Christ in the manger, the shepherds guided by the star, and the profound meaning of a Savior’s birth. I remember the hymns, the Nativity plays, the sermons that made the story of Jesus come alive. It wasn’t about gifts—it was about grace, about the miracle of light piercing through darkness. Back then, my Christmases felt like an unbroken connection to something bigger than myself. I sang joy to the world at a catholic church this past weekend and it bought back so many memories. That connection faded when I transitioned to public school in the fifth grade.
