Plan B. What does that really mean? Does it mean you’re not fully confident in your Plan A? Does it mean you’re playing it safe? I wrestled with that for years. And when I say wrestled, I’m talking about a full-on, no-holds-barred, steel cage match with myself about what commitment really looks like. Back in the day, basketball was my first love. But I never made it my Plan A. It was just one of the things I liked to do. One of many. And when you’re splitting your focus, you don’t get what you say you want. Silver Spoon!

In the realm of societal unbalance, there exists a phrase that reverberates with both envy and disdain: “born with a silver spoon.” It explains the notion of being born into immense wealth, shielded from the adversities that plague the majority of humanity. As I reflect on this concept, I am reminded of the stark realities of economic inequality that persist in our world. In my capacity as a black teacher and gym owner, I witness firsthand the disparities that exist and the systemic barriers that obstruct the path to prosperity for many including myself. Less than 2% of the population will never have to worry about money. These individuals were born with a silver spoon. This status is for life. Unlike a plastic spoon, a person born with a silver spoon will always have a silver spoon. It doesn’t matter what happens in their life; they will always be rich. The metaphor of the silver spoon speaks to the perpetuation of privilege across generations. It symbolizes not just material wealth, but also access to opportunities, networks, and resources that reinforce and amplify that wealth. Personal excellence is the ultimate rebellion! Become the best version of yourself. Stop wasting your time finding excuses for why you aren’t where you want to be in life. I blame me. Who do you blame? We live in a world, especially in the USA, where we depend so much on others. We depend on electricity, running water, grocery stores, and hundreds of other dependent variables that have been created over time. We are so dependent on these elements of life that we think we cannot survive without them. A few years ago, one of my student’s parents told me that her child needed to bring his phone to school because it was the only way she could contact him if she needed him. I was speechless. She was correct in her mind about needing to contact her son. The school does have a phone system, and if her child was supposed to be in school and she needed to contact him, she could call the school. However, technology has created a more convenient system, and society has forgotten how to function without it. I graduated from high school and college without a cell phone. Small Town

Hot topic today is the Jason Aldean’s song “try that in a small town”. When I first heard the song I did not think anything of it. In fact I was feeling it. Much like I was feeling the 2004 rap song by Ja Rule “ New York”. For those that do not know me I am 75 % African mostly Nigerian and 25 % European mostly Italian. I have two biracial children and my wife is white. I am an educator and small business owner. I was an inspired rapper and I am a poet and a published Author. My background is significant to some. I see myself as an American and I believe America is the greatest country in the world. As I should because it’s the only one I truly know. Now let’s talk! There was a time when violence, swears, and the n word was censored from songs. I believe 2live crew won a court case and today we have the affects of that.
