Danger- is an educated black man!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “I fear I am integrating my people into a burning house.” This quote has echoed through my mind as I reflect on the realities of being an educated Black man in America. It is not simply a matter of success or personal achievement; it’s a dangerous journey that forces us to navigate a society designed to keep us in a state of submission. Education, for many, is seen as the great equalizer—a path to better opportunities and a chance to break free from the chains of poverty. However, for the educated Black man, it often feels more like a weapon used against us, revealing uncomfortable truths about our society and exposing the systemic structures that threaten our existence. Education gives us the power to see beyond the surface, to recognize the lies and manipulation perpetuated by the government. As an educated Black man, you begin to see through the glossy veneer of American politics, realizing that promises of freedom, equality, and opportunity are often hollow. Opportunities in the air!

While taking a flight to Daytona beach Florida for a weekend getaway with two of my guy friends, I closely paid attention to people’s habits around me. As I walked through 1st class, I noticed a man frantic on his lap top. I thought to myself, “I hope he works for himself”. I would never be that intense about performing tasks for a company or boss. Then I noticed an older couple relaxed and reading the paper. I could not see what the older gentleman was reading, but I assumed it was something business related. As I made my way to the main cabin, I saw people wiping down their seats and adjusting their masks. I chuckled to myself. After I sat down, I began to watch to see what people would be doing during this flight. I have been on over 100 flights in my lifetime and this was the first time I really watched people! My observations lead me to believe that people want to be entertained, work, sleep and eat/drink while flying. This is not much different than the real world. The people who I noticed reading were reading mystery novels, love novels and enjoyment type books.,...

On occasion salt is sprinkled all over this organ like a southern meal. Then it is wrapped tightly in a cast as if it were a broken arm. Puss and fluid drip slowly and consistently. Leaders going bad!

It only takes one person to make a real stand and bring about change within a system. It has been more than 50 years since teachers went on strike and refused to work. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, many teachers started leaving their jobs and careers in search of better opportunities. The pandemic has further accelerated this trend. What is the problem? There are numerous problems, as is the case everywhere and at all times. However, many of these problems can actually be seen as opportunities. Schools and their staff have the potential to create amazing learning environments. Will this happen? Yes, in some schools, but in most cases, no. I have been a teacher for 22 years and have had eight different leaders. Out of these eight, two were truly exceptional at their jobs and effectively utilized their staff. One of them was not only competent but also a good person, while the other was quite challenging to work with. The latter managed 33 staff members for only 37 students, displaying rudeness and a lack of empathy towards others. Empowerment in Vermont: My Transformative Weekend with 25 Powerful Men of Color

Have you ever been surrounded by 20 or more men who made you feel empowered and valuable? I have! This past weekend, I attended a men’s wellness retreat in Vermont with 25 powerful men of color. The ages and stories were amazing, tragic, resilient, and worthy of absorbing. There were multiple moments during this retreat where I encountered joy so overwhelming it brought tears of happiness to my cheeks. Every person I spoke to was as clear as my aunt’s glass windows. There were no signs of masks or hidden agendas. I am not exaggerating when I say everyone I encountered was fully open and engaged. As a man of color, it is unfortunate that we do not feel this way among each other more frequently. If I could use a word to describe what every man felt around each other, I would use “safe” or “secure.” The goal of this weekend getaway was to rest, recover, and be our true selves.
