Struggle

I owe 100% of my success to the struggle. Stop and think about everything you have. How did you achieve it? Was it easy? In my case nothing I have came instant or without suffering in some manners. Many of my nightmares I truly lived. Were the experiences fun? HELL to the NO. However, they built everything I am standing on today. Everytime I hit a wall, which is often, I look at the obstacles I have overcome thus far and without hesitation I continue to move forward and up. Remember forward and up requires work. Going down hill is easy. Gravity will assist you. Add some wheels and you will be at the bottom quick!      I was listening to an Ed Mylet Podcast the other day and his guess was Tony Robbins. He said something that hit me like a migraine on a court day. He referred to the economic times we are currently going through as the winter. He went on to talk about how people ski, snowboard and ice skate in the winter while others just stay in, afraid and live in fear. I was like damn! That was me. I never,...

2023 will be great because…

Happy new year! So often people hold off being amazing for days or months, waiting for a certain day or opportunity. Waiting is time wasted. That’s time you will never get back. There are occasions when we need to wait for a certain time. For example, you need to learn more about something, you have a surgery coming up, or you are recovering. In the fitness industry when someone tells me they want to wait for this day, they want to get ready for a wedding or vacation, or they do not have the time or money, I smile. My insides fill with emotions that rage and I use them in my next workout. Why? Why do I fill up with rage? I believe those are all the wrong reasons to get healthy or fit. I believe you get healthy or fit for life. My motivation is that I want to live forever. Right now, that is what I really want! So everything I do is fueled by eternal life. I am not perfect and I still have many variables to work on to be who I want to be. Yet, I still focus on living forever. For me, that,...

Showing up

There’s been a thought circling in my mind this week—showing up. Not just in the gym, not just at family events, but in every corner of life. Showing up is the secret sauce, the unglamorous but essential ingredient to success. Yet let’s be real—some people just don’t get it. They expect you to always be there for them, but when it’s their turn? Crickets. Here’s the thing though—it doesn’t phase me anymore. Why? Because on this journey, I’ve realized there are two types of people: supporters and spectators. And let me tell you, I’m not here for the peanut gallery. Discipline Over Excuses Whether you’re pushing weights or pushing through life’s challenges, discipline is what separates dreamers from doers. We all know the formula: wake up earlier, put in the work, eat right. But knowing won’t transform your life—doing will. That’s the whole idea behind my Instagram series, Discipline Diaries. Every Monday, I drop a reel to remind you that it’s not about intentions; it’s about execution. Your dreams? They’re not waiting for you to feel ready. They’re waiting for you to show up. That’s why, whether it’s our 5-day fitness challenge or the 8-week programs at Workout Harder Fitness,,...

Shame on us!

As a child, I often questioned the necessity of mundane tasks like brushing my teeth, attending school, and adhering to rules. They seemed like mere control tactics, albeit necessary ones. However, as I’ve grown, I’ve come to appreciate these seemingly trivial chores for what they truly are: character and discipline builders. I shudder to think what state my teeth would be in had I neglected daily brushing. The habit, ingrained in me since childhood, is now second nature. Looking back, my poor dietary habits as a youth resulted in multiple cavities, highlighting the importance of daily oral hygiene. Now, as a teacher, I grasp the significance of education in shaping a productive society. While I advocate for improvements in the public school system, I firmly believe in the transformative power of education. Despite holding three degrees, I reflect on my own educational journey with a tinge of regret. Rushing into college straight after high school, I lacked direction and squandered my undergraduate years in a haze of parties. Even during a year-long hiatus working, clarity eluded me. I simply knew I didn’t want a life confined to a factory. As for rules, I once scoffed at them, always seeking shortcuts—a,...

Mr. K

This blog is a great follow up to Ham Ave. When I first moved to Greenwich I was completely new to organized sports. The only games I knew were kick ball, stick ball, taps and tag. I watched baseball, football and basketball all the time. I just never had the opportunity to play sports in an organized or even unorganized setting. Living in the city and spending a lot of time in the projects didn’t allow for these opportunities for me prior to moving to Greenwich. Being outside and playing as a kid allowed me to transition to organized sports well. I went to Hamilton Avenue Elementary school. I was not a fan of the learning part in school. The change from the Mount Vernon/ Bronx New York to Greenwich Ct really halted my education. The Bronx and Mount Vernon areas I lived in were predominantly black. I didn’t even know too many people of Spanish descent. Greenwich on the other hand was white, and the neighborhood I lived in was mostly Italian. I went from being called a white boy to being seen as black. I was extremely uncomfortable and the only way I knew how to deal with,...
