Christmas has been many things to me over the course of my life, each chapter defined by where I was, who I was, and what I believed. It’s not just a holiday—it’s a mirror reflecting the seasons of my soul. As a child in a Lutheran school, Christmas was pure, untouchable, holy. It was about Christ in the manger, the shepherds guided by the star, and the profound meaning of a Savior’s birth. I remember the hymns, the Nativity plays, the sermons that made the story of Jesus come alive. It wasn’t about gifts—it was about grace, about the miracle of light piercing through darkness. Back then, my Christmases felt like an unbroken connection to something bigger than myself. I sang joy to the world at a catholic church this past weekend and it bought back so many memories. Small Town

Hot topic today is the Jason Aldean’s song “try that in a small town”. When I first heard the song I did not think anything of it. In fact I was feeling it. Much like I was feeling the 2004 rap song by Ja Rule “ New York”. For those that do not know me I am 75 % African mostly Nigerian and 25 % European mostly Italian. I have two biracial children and my wife is white. I am an educator and small business owner. I was an inspired rapper and I am a poet and a published Author. My background is significant to some. 50 years deep!

I was driving Uber the other day, heading from Avon down to Foxwoods Casino. Long ride, but it was a Saturday and I had time. The couple I picked up had a story to tell. They were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Yeah, 50 years. That number hit me. I’m 52. They have been together since I was two years old. That kind of longevity makes you think. The wife was a retired teacher, sharp as ever. We got to talking—about education, politics, relationships, and respect. Many people consider their wedding day to be the pinnacle of happiness, calling it the best day of their life—a profound declaration indeed. It represents a single day amidst a lifetime, comprising countless days—your age multiplied by 365. To consider this one day as the absolute best is a weighty statement, isn’t it?
