Opportunities in the air!

While taking a flight to Daytona beach Florida for a weekend getaway with two of my guy friends, I closely paid attention to peopleโ€™s habits around me. As I walked through 1st class, I noticed a man frantic on his lap top. I thought to myself, โ€œI hope he works for himselfโ€. I would never be that intense about performing tasks for a company or boss. Then I noticed an older couple relaxed and reading the paper. I could not see what the older gentleman was reading, but I assumed it was something business related. As I made my way to the main cabin, I saw people wiping down their seats and adjusting their masks. I chuckled to myself. After I sat down, I began to watch to see what people would be doing during this flight. I have been on over 100 flights in my lifetime and this was the first time I really watched people!

My observations lead me to believe that people want to be entertained, work, sleep and eat/drink while flying. This is not much different than the real world. The people who I noticed reading were reading mystery novels, love novels and enjoyment type books. On the other hand, I was reading a self-development book. Hence opportunities in the air.

I look at flying as at least an hour of uninterrupted growth time. No phone calls, no text, no social media, nothing to distract me. I was on a flight without televisions. However, you could connect to the WiFi and use the internet if you choose to. I prefer to take this opportunity to grow mentally. I believe that habits are not done just Monday-Friday, taking the weekend and or holidays off. I believe habits are daily. Imagine if you only brushed your teeth on the weekdays, shower, eat, drink water, pray or any other habit you can think of. That would mean that you are only doing what you are doing less than 80% of the time. I donโ€™t know about you but I know I want to smell good 100% of the time. Habits are the reason people achieve or donโ€™t achieve.

I try to read everyday for 30 minutes to an hour. Do I miss days, of course!!! However, I do not miss days because I am on vacation. In fact, I read more when I am on vacation because I have more time to do so. I am on vacation now! I read 50 pages and I am writing a blog now. I am not watching others, or entertaining myself. I am growing because I am reading a book that is about financial literature. They do not teach you this topic in schools. The book I am reading is Rich Dad, Poor Dad. I recommend it to you. I have a strong knowledge of the subject matter discussed in this book but it doesnโ€™t hurt to reinforce what you know. Keeping the tools ready and sharp!

So far the big lesson in the book is understanding the difference between a liability and an asset. Here it is the nutshell: a liability costs your money each month, an asset makes you money, PERIOD! If you pay for it over and over it is a liability, no arguments or what ifs.

Habits to me work similarly. Wasting time on a daily basis is a liability. You never get back any of the time that you lose. If we all lived to be 100 years of age and we slept 8 hours a night, we would have slept about 33 years. I heard this on an Ed Mylet podcast about time management! We need sleep so I would not say that is a liability. What you choose to do with those other 67 years of your life could be useless if they do not work on any personal development. Watching tv, playing video games, partying, or relaxin.

Thank you for reading!
